Loyal Martin Griffin, born in Ogden, Utah, on July 23, 1920, was a doctor in Marin County, Calif. and then a public health director at Sonoma State Hospital. Griffin's interest in environmental conservation lead him to help create the Audubon Canyon Ranch in Marin County, Calif., which grew to include wildlife sanctuaries on Bolinas Lagoon and Tomales Bay.
